Montjuich
After Sagrada Familia we took a tour of the Montjuich area of Barcelona, including the 1929 exposition buildings that were later renovated and modified for the 1992 Olympics. Barcelona capitalized on these grand existing structures to make the 1992 Olympic investment more manageable. They did not build new hotels for the event, but brought in many, many cruise ships to serve as hospitality and were therefore able to put their money elsewhere. The stadium needed about three times the capacity of the one built in 1929, so they blasted out a hole and lowered the playing field to expand the seating. We get a great view of the harbor and the whole city. The day is crystal clear (until later) and the group shots are in order.
